Basement Refresh: Budget-Friendly Wet Bar Glow-Up

Oops I did it again 🤭

Removing cabinets has been a game changer lately.

When we first moved in this home, this space needed a quick fix stat and so it got one because I certainly didn't want to leave it as is.

Below is a before picture of what it looked like when we first moved in. Original wood grain cabinetry and Ikea shelves. With a little bit of paint already from what would be the quick fix I mentioned by yours truly. Not terrible but not great. Right?!

Although that quick fix managed to keep me at ease for about three years removing the kitchen cabinet and adding a shelf motivated me to work on this next project.

I've been wanting to get rid of the shelves and top cabinet for a while now, a while turned into 3 years later.  Eventually we will be giving this space a whole makeover when we finally replace the carpet with flooring or possibly a new kind of carpet since it does tend to get chilly down here quite a bit in the winter and stays cool in the summer.

But for now, I at least wanted this basement wet bar to look like the it belonged with the style of the rest of the house. I visualized and visualized and eventually this is what I came up with.

Originally this wall was left white and the rest of the room was in this color and I don't know what I was thinking. It eventually only made sense that the whole room be enveloped in the same color and I wanted the shelves to blend in with the rest of it.

Again this space will eventually change or simply get upgraded.

The cabinets got a paint makeover too with a new favorite color which I painted our made-shift mudroom drop zone as well. Which worked out because they match the DIY skirt I made to hide the empty space that now holds our mini fridge for cold drinks and trash can. I even repainted the handles I added to the cabinet from black to gold with this color spray paint.

The counter top is eventually going to get switched out too to a butcher block because it would be inexpensive but until I'm ready to make that expense I'm willing to live with what we have at the moment. I did find out while painting the shelf and climbing onto the counter that it's not actually screwed or glued onto the cabinets, therefore it'll be easy to switch out when the time comes.

I don't know about you, but I'm actually really happy with how it all turned out and though not everything around this room is done to my liking just yet, these small changes make me so happy and definitely make it easier to live with the imperfections for the time being.

Displaying all of my thrifted items on this single long shelf just makes me so happy and love how all the colors and changes came together.

This basement "living space" wet bar, is useful in so many ways. When we're down here hanging out, watching movies, hosting or simply playing games we have a place to go to for drinks, cocktails and to place food when necessary. Best of all though I love that I get to display some of my pretty vases, cake stands, dishes and more!

As always, thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read. I hope this brings you some joy to see and how easy and quickly a single space can change. Literally another weekend project in the books.

I have linked some of the items purchased and used for this project below.

xx
