In our previous home we had a walk-in entry with a drop zone area so although we love this new home and all it has to offer including it's potential, it was lacking a drop zone entry and fireplace. Two of my favorite things but we knew we could live without for the time being.
Well fast forward two years and I'm finally tackling the closets. If you caught this post from earlier this year, then you know that most of the closets including our pantry in this home are getting some kind of makeover and I'm pretty excited about it. Just hoping I get around to tackling all if not most of the projects I mentioned. I'm an optimist what can I say.
I had a vision when it came to this new and improved space. Just like the hallway project, I knew I wanted to use the infamous headboard wallpaper I had on hand. But you can obviously use actual bead-board too if you wanted too, in this case and most of the projects, I've preferred the wallpaper for affordability purposes. Which I will link below.
Truth is most of our projects in this home are cosmetic and staying on a budget is key, most of the time. We know that they'll take time like most of our projects, so I hope you're just as patient as we are. Sometimes it may seem like some projects are as easy as 1-2-3 but not always especially when you don't have that much time available to do it all at once or buy all the things you envision. I like to take my time finding certain items on Facebook Marketplace or thrifting.

Although this project is far from done. Meaning the lower portion of it, still has a few tweaks including finding the right fabric for the makeshift cushion.
Before I get to what is done on this project, let's see and talk a bit about how this project started shall we.
Before picture below after removing the doors to this classic linen closet.
We took everything out and cleaned the space.
I then removed the wire closet system on my own. It was easier to remove than I had expected. We were able to sell it on FBMP and off it went to a new home. We had no use for it.
Patching all of the holes was the next task.
Great tip for anyone who doesn't already know this, stuff big screw holes with tissue paper to make spackling over it a lot easier.
Then it was time to add the wallpaper and the corbels I bought via FBMP knowing that I would one day put them to good use in this home. I tend to do that, buy something I know I will want to use eventually especially if I'm able to find it for a steal.
We bought this shelf and it was the perfect size we simply had to cut one end to shorten the length. We dummied up a bench, again not experts here and it was the most affordable. We basically don't care too much about how the bench looks because there will be a cushion covering it and I have a few ideas for enhancing the bottom portion dividers, stay tuned.
Then it was time to prime everything.
Tested a couple of colors I had on hand, but after doing some research and playing with the color we already have on our interior doors. As much as I wanted to do a bold green or bold burgundy, going with a more brown toned olive color was best suited, so Crownsville Gray by BM was the winner. I had it matched to Glidden Interior Premium paint it's my personal favorite to use, it doesn't break the bank and it's great in quality close enough to Behr.
Luckily a quart size of paint was all I needed for this space with a small amount left over for touch ups, I'll probably buy another quart eventually for some of the additional trim I'll be adding soon I hope.
This is how it looks currently below, minus the hooks, after adding these double hook hanging hooks I soon realized they were not the look I was going for and too small for this space, so I changed them to these, which I will soon reveal.
The Ikea baskets up top I already had and wasn't using them so this the perfect spot for the to hold gloves and extras we use seasonally. Added a couple of thrifted books for looks and to fill the gap.
The hat is thrifted, I simply wanted to add a few things so you could get a visual of how this space will be used. Besides a drop zone, more importantly it's a great area for us to finally sit and take our shoes off and on and place items when we get home, etc.
The cute picture art frame was a lucky find from Scheels in their Home Decor section and I'll be going back for more very soon.
More to come soon, in the meantime, please ask away in the comments or refer to some of the links below.
